Dear Glendora High School Alumni:

 

I hope that after you read this you will understand and choose to support your alma mater – Glendora High School.

 

I hope you fondly remember your days at GHS.  If you are anything like me, your best memories came from activities you were involved with rather than 3rd period History, or reading Moby Dick. Whether it was being on a sports team (Go Tartans!), belonging to one of the various clubs, or being a part of their award-winning music program, you probably made life-long friendships in these groups and developed skills that have helped you the rest of your life.

 

As parents of two GHS students, my wife and I enjoy supporting them and being involved with a parent booster organization – the GHS Band and Pageantry Boosters. OK, so I’ve tipped my hand.

 

The GHS Band and Pageantry is one of the most successful competitive teams at Glendora High School.  Their 2004 season is just about to get going and hopefully they will repeat some of the success they enjoyed last year:

 

LA County Fair: Sweepstakes

Kennedy Field Competition: Band Sweepstakes, Music Sweepstakes, Auxiliary Sweepstakes, Visual Sweepstakes, Percussion Sweepstakes

Azusa Golden Days: Band Sweepstakes, Auxiliary Sweepstakes, and Drill Team Sweepstakes

 

The list of their accomplishments goes on and on. But I won’t.

 

Without the continued support of the Glendora Unified School District, parents, the community and alumni like you, this program would not be able to continue at the level of excellence that has become a tradition. We are blessed with support throughout the year as our kids (and us) sell candy, car washes cookie dough and the normal fundraisers. But I am writing to you today to ask for your extra-ordinary support.

 

The GHS Band and Pageantry Booster needs to raise even more funds this year for some long-term investments into the program. In particular, new instruments to augment or replace existing ones. As most of the funding come through donations and fundraising rather than school funds, these large expentures will strain already tight budgets.

 

There are several ways you can help support your alma mater and these hard-working, talented kids.

New Instrument Fund Donation

 

The following is a list of new instruments needed to replace worn-out instruments, and in some cases, provide ones that are not currently available for students to use. Costs are based on internet sites and we hope to negotiate better pricing when we are ready to purchase. Costs do not include shipping or taxes.

Just to buy these 5 instruments requires that we raise over $10,000! That is a lot of candy bars and cars to wash! This is why we are asking for your financial support.

 

General Fund Donation   

 

This fund covers the day-to-day costs of operatition from transportation of kid and equipment, to competition entry fees and specialty instructional aid (like for the outstanding Scottish Bagpipe Band that is uniquely GHS). Most of our normal fundraising goes to this fund, but as you all know, costs of just about everything are skyrocketing. Any additional donation to this fund will help ensure we are able to support our kids as they start their 2004 competition season.

 

E-Scrip

 

E-scrip is an easy and painless way to support the program all year and doesn’t cost you a dime. This on-line program is a fantastic resource for fundraising where participating merchants contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty card, credit/debit card purchases to the GHS Band and Pageantry.

 

Simply sign up on-line at www.escrip.com , register your cards and shop at many of the national merchants you already do like Vons, Payless Shoes, Round Table Pizza and hundreds more across the country.

 

When you sign up for e-scrip just designate the GHS Band Boosters to receive the contributions. Our Group Number is 155680369.
